Castle Views and Community Values: Our Recent Trip to Old Town Edinburgh

2 min readWhen you’re building a motorcycle safety initiative like One Split Second, a huge part of the mission isn't just staring at statistics or analyzing UK road data, it’s about getting out there, experiencing the roads, and connecting face-to-face with the riding community. Recently, Ady and Ben did exactly that, taking a brilliant trip up north to explore the historic, atmospheric streets of Old Town Edinburgh.
Soaking Up the History
There is nothing quite like wandering through Old Town. Between the towering presence of Edinburgh Castle, the stone architecture, and the winding cobblestone alleys, it's a place that completely slows you down. We took some well-earned time to do a proper bit of sightseeing, immersing ourselves in the incredible atmosphere of the city.
But as fantastic as the castles and history are, no trip up past the border is truly complete without catching up with the local biking community.
Meeting up with The Basic Biker
The absolute highlight of our evening was catching up with a familiar face in the digital motorcycle community: Matt McCree, better known to most of you as The Basic Biker.
We grabbed a couple of drinks and settled in for a massive, non-stop chat about everything that unites us:

Look Out For One Another
Our conversation over a drink only reinforced why we do this. At the end of the day, improving road safety isn't about lecturing people from an authority hall; it’s about normal motorcyclists looking after each other. It only ever takes one split second for a situation to change, and building a tight-knit community helps keep us all safe.
