What these numbers can and cannot do

A statistic cannot tell you what will happen on your next ride. It can, however, point to patterns that are worth respecting: rural road severity, junction judgement, observation, speed choice, and the vulnerability that comes with riding without a vehicle body around you.

Use the figures as prompts for better margin and better questions, not as a reason to stop enjoying riding.

There came a day when I put my helmet back on and rode again. Because that's what riders do. Not because we forget. Not because we're fearless. But because sooner or later, you have to stop looking at where you fell and start looking at where you're going. Keep riding. Stay strong.
